Adult Aiki-Jujitsu Classes – Practical Self-Defence for Real Life
Our adult classes are designed to teach effective, adaptable self-defence using Aiki-Jujitsu principles. Training includes:
- Joint locks and manipulations
- Body strikes and pressure points
- Throws and takedowns
- Escapes from grabs and holds
You’ll learn to defend yourself from a wide range of attacks—both standing and seated—using techniques that are fast, efficient, and designed to neutralize threats quickly. We avoid prolonged ground holds to reduce the risk of secondary attackers intervening. Once an opponent is down, the goal is to disengage and stay safe.
Real-Life Applications of Techniques
Here’s how some of the techniques you’ll learn can be applied in real-world situations:
Escaping Wrist Grabs
- Application: If someone grabs your wrist in an aggressive or controlling way, you’ll learn how to break free and counter with a control or takedown technique.
Defending Against Clothing Grabs
- Application: In situations where someone grabs your jacket, hoodie, or shirt (common in street confrontations), you’ll learn how to escape and create distance or take control.
Escaping Strangles and Headlocks
- Application: These techniques are critical for defending against chokes or headlocks, which are common in real-life altercations. You’ll learn how to break the hold and regain control quickly.
Blocking and Countering Strikes
- Application: You’ll learn how to block punches or slaps using inside and outside deflections, followed by counter-strikes or throws to end the confrontation.
Multiple Attackers or Seated Defence
- Application: You’ll train for unpredictable situations, such as being attacked while seated (e.g., on public transport) or defending someone else from harm. Techniques include seated defence, third-party protection, and multiple attacker scenarios.
Training Environment & Safety
- All training is conducted on matted floors to reduce injury risk.
- We teach safe falling techniques (Ukemi), including:
- Forward/backward rolls
- Side and back breakfalls
- Controlled recovery to standing positions
Progression & Philosophy
Our training is structured to help you build confidence, awareness, and physical capability. We focus on:
- Practical self-defence
- Adaptability to real-life situations
- Personal growth and resilience
- Respect, discipline, and community
Progress is based on your development—not just attendance. We encourage students to explore techniques that suit their body type and personal style, helping you build a martial arts identity that works for you.
